2010 Pennsylvania (Allegheny) Gathering

Howdy Folks

Here are directions to National Gathering 2010 to be held July 1–7 in the Allegheny National Forest.

This is the site of the 1986 Gathering in Pennsylvania. We're on rerun. So for scouts, the directions are: Queen Creek, south of Heart's Content, Pennsylvania. N 41.64175 W 79.29434

For those who want more information, maybe you will find it in the following unverified rumors.

From 666

From Sheffield Pennsylvania go south on Highway 948/666 for 2 miles. Turn right onto 666. Continue ten miles or so to Mayburg and turn right on Road 116, also known as Bobbs Creek Road.
Or else, from East Hickory take 666 about fifteen miles to Mayburg and turn left.
Go six miles north to 119 near Dunham Siding (SR-2002) and turn sharp left onto FS-119. Follow 119 for exactly 5.8 miles to FS-552. Follow FS-552 to designated parking areas.

From the East, via Sheffield PA:

Go to Sheffield PA, and get your kicks on Route 666.

One tenth of a mile from the end of Route 666 (where it meets Route 6) there is a Uni-mart gas station. Turn onto this road and cross over the bridge. Continue onto High St (State Road, SR-2002) and follow for 11.2 Miles. Make a left onto FS-116 (sign says Mayburg). Make an immediate right onto FS-119, Follow 119 for exactly 5.8 miles to FS-552. Follow FS-552 to designated parking areas.

Heading east on Interstate 80.

Exit at Rt 8 Wesley and go north on 8 to Franklin where it joins 62 north towards Tidioute. Go 100 feet East of gas station. Sign info TBA. Turn right on road going up the hill towards hickory creek area. Drive 2.5 to 2.8 miles. Exact mileage TBA. Turn left on FS-119 and continue to FS-552. Go to parking.

This info came from a scout who will verify mileage and name of turn off from Tidioute tomorrow. Roads are as good this way as other ways.

From the South, via I-80:

From the south try this Google version of a possible Road Map I haven't verified these roads as the best way in from the south and west, but you can use the mouse to move the route and figure it out yourself. I heard 3rd hand that supposedly there is a gate on Old Forest Rd and FS 119. If so there could be other gates coming in from the west. I've also been told that no large vehicles should attempt to drive up FS 209 to the supply camp, as they'll get stuck.

Once you get there, parking is on FS 552, and on the side of the roads. Make sure your vehicle is off the side of the road so you don't get a ticket.

Here is a map of the area, centered about 10 miles west of Sheffield. The big road along the Allegheny River is Highway 62. The word "Content" slightly to the right of top dead center is short for "Heart's Content".

This link has the Topo Map, Terrain, Satalite Photos of the site, the mark is on the main circle.
