What happened at October 2009 Council?

A 'HOWDY FOLKS' for the weekend Council in Vermont on Oct. 9–11, 2009

We, who are sisters and brothers, children of the Universe, families of life on Earth, friends of Nature and of all people, calling ourselves Rainbow Family tribe, humbly invite: all races, peoples, tribes, and individuals, to join with us in gathering together for the purpose of expressing our sincere desire that there shall be peace on Earth, harmony among all peoples; and to worship, chant, sing, dance, council, or whatever is the desire of the people.

This is a Spiritual Gathering, absolutely free & non-commercial, supported by our voluntary cooperation. We are here to express and rejoice in the sacredness of Ourselves, Nature, the Land, and the Spirit that connects us with All. Tread lightly, with great respect, as you enter the Cathedral of Nature.

Directions: The Council will manifest at (or in the vicinity of) the 'Somerset Landing Strip' in the Green Mountain National Forest of Vermont. Head west from Brattleboro on Route 9. Go 24 miles (measured from the intersection with Interstate 91 in Brattleboro). Just before the road begins a long climb into the hills, you will reach an intersection. On the left is Sleepy Hollow Road, on the right is Forest Service Road #71. Neither of these roads is marked at the intersection, though they both have signs stating "Legal Load Limit 24,000 Pounds." Take a Right onto 71. There is a sign saying 71 about fifty feet on, so you will know immediately that you are on the correct road. Except for the very beginning, this is a dirt road. It is well maintained, but the 25mph speed limit is important to follow, because there is a steep drop-off on the right side, with no guard rail. Be especially careful if arriving after dark. Go 6.2 miles. Right after the bridge, turn left, and you are home—sign says camping 0.1 mile & a bunch of stuff about apple trees.

The hoped for setup is for cars to be parked at the very beginning of the field, on the left, near the outhouse. And for the camping, cooking, counselling, and festivities to be at the far end on the right. This is a long weekend however, and there may be other groups camping there as well. So we will have to play it by ear, as to the actual setup—check the campground bulletin board for changes—listen for drums.

(If you approach from the west on Route 9, the intersection with 71 will be roughly 15 miles from Bennington, on the left, after descending from the hills. If you get to Wilmington, you've gone too far.)

Bring food, water, bowl, cup, and spoon, tent, bedding, flashlights, musical instruments, and lots of warm clothes, including long underwear and rain gear. Bring extra for those who forget. Food preparation facilities may be less extensive than you would expect to find at a longer&larger Gathering—so anticipate being a bit more self sufficient in this realm.

The North American Gathering will be in the East next summer. This Council will be a fantastic opportunity to meet and hang out with folks who want to start planning for that Wonderment.

Ignore all rumors of cancellation!
