What's happening?

The company that hosted this web page is going out of business.

I have moved this web site to a new server. The old one is Powered Off and Canceled.

See Technical Details for more general updates on the web server. I have been keeping a log of messages sent through the mailing list. Some speculation and general conclusions from that data is >here<

For years I have put news that comes to me on this page. It had gotten very long.

In the process of moving the web pages to the new VPServer, I found many broken links, some external, but also many files that never even made it to the old VPSever. I am finding them on backups of the computer that used to serve them via DSL.

I am organizing the historical information under the "Old News" link on in the left column of this page. This is a work in progress.

Who cares about your computer? What's happening with Rainbow?

Everybody seems to be a bit grumpy, but they ask the same questions that I have:
  1. What happened at Memorial weekend council in VT? Was there any consensus on a Nerf regional?
  2. Rumor is that Spring council for the national/annual is June 10, but I don't know where. Anybody?
  3. I am grumpy because everyone who runs an email server seems to agree that the big corporations (gmail, yahoo, and hotmail) have changed the rules. Mail to the mailing list that should be transfered to gmail gets randomly rejected "To reduce the amount of spam" as they say. What are the new rules? It looks like I have to drive to Erie on Sunday to file for a temporary restraining order Monday.
S— got one in Georgia early on 3 July 2018, but this time we are asking for more, that the gathering no longer be declared an unauthorized incident.
F— contacted me last week that he thought the volunteer application was the best plan after all. He was going to do one with somebody but instead recruited three others on site plus one on line. They mistimed their excursion on Monday, missing business hours, but got to the district office on Tuesday. District Ranger Richard Hatfield is cordial but likely overruled ahead of time by the national LEOs from issuing an operating plan instead of "design criteria".

The following is taken from https://newsylvania.blogspot.com/ (Click Gathering Location). There is a lot of other information there also. I highly recommend it.

When does Spring CCC start?

This year spring CCC starts on June 10th. Directions to the council site (not the gathering) are being worked on and the info I have is folks walking the land are thinking they should have directions out on June 8th. If you are traveling, the directions will be posted on the Info Crew Lightline 530-ITS-INFO (530-487-4636) when they become available.

Howdy Folks
We invite all peaceful beings to gather in the Allegheny National Forest for the 2026 Annual Rainbow Gathering from July 1-7 on the lands currently known as the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, to pray for world peace and the healing of the earth. Directions

Hi Folks,

Was at the Gathering for the past 10 days, so I thought I'd send my report / impressions....

Overall, it was a very positive experience. Numerous fine kitchens. Much singing and togetherness. Probably ~3000 attendees. Many magical moments that are hard to express in words.

One thing I heard over an over: "After a series of challenging Gatherings (site problems / serious weather / factions & animosity), it was wonderful to have a sweet Gathering again."

Of course, all the usual intimidation and harassment by the Feds, mostly in the earlier days of the week. A good deal of helicopter circling during the days (I never knew those things have sirens on them!) Several times they returned after midnight to buzz around. (It can never hurt to complain to your congressman.)

I joined Vision Council for about 2 hours before leaving to return to Mass. I got to see the quickest consensus on record: "Let's move to a place with shade." As far as a location for next year... virtually every state was suggested by someone... it seemed to me though, that the most mentions were Wyoming/Utah, South Dakota, and Oregon. No strong sway to any single destination yet... they are probably still discussing it today. We'll no doubt hear eventually.

Subject: Vision Counsel consensus
From Vision Counsel in Pennsylvania:

We, the People,

On the land currently known as the Allegheny National Forest, forever the ancestral homelands of the Seneca people of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, warmly welcome all peaceful beings to join us in cocreating a celebration and prayer for world peace at the 2027 Annual Rainbow Gathering, from July 1-7 on the land currently known as Nebraska or Wyoming.

As we enter an area with potentially high fire risk, we commit to learning to use only propane and/or alternative fuel fires when necessary.

We ask family to work throughout the year to create an accessible 2027 Annual Gathering.

The Gathering is what we build together. We encourage individuals to arrive to seed camp as early as spring counsel to help build a strong village. To arrive early means to come prepared to take care of yourselves and others and help build the community. You have the opportunity to build the gathering you wish to see.

We invite individuals to continue circling for harvest counsel, October 22-26.

WE LOVE YOU!

Why did you make this web site (2006)?

I was shocked to find that the original nerflings.com was was unreliable because the hosting company, called “Millennium-Hosting.net ”, has inconsistant DNS records. Half the time they spell their own name wrong (millenium with one N) and whether you get the webpage depends upon all the nameservers in all the gin joints in all the towns in all the world. I spent a couple of weeks trying to help get it straightened out, but it became clear that the technical contact at Millennium Hosing has no clue what he is doing, and he doesn't think our problems amount to a hill of beans in this crazy world.

I've got a job to do, too. So I finally created this site in the dead of night as a backup. I did not co-ordinate with the focalizer of the original site, and there was some confusion at first, but now both sites are up and operating in tandem to bring you the latest spurious rumor. The owner of the *.com site seems to have changed hosting companies. So maybe everything works now, and this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship.

*—(2026) The nerflings.com site no longer exists. Click at risk.

This site was created by editing an old version of nerflings.com, but neither is a mirror of the other. Both sites can be updated independently, by different people, are run by totally different software, on different computers and networks, with no organization or commercial enterprise in common.

As time goes by, the differences between (nerflings.org) and nerflings.com continue to accumulate, so it is worth checking both sites, human reason, and divine revelation, before believing anything.

What I tell you three times is true.

Which is correct, "council" or "counsel"?

I thought the later was a straightforward spelling mistake, but before correcting it, I checked a dictionary and learned something. The word "council" is a noun, and refers to some assembled persons. The word "counsel" can be a noun, but it refers to words of advice (or to a lawyer). It can also be a verb, which refers to the act of giving or taking counsel or advice.
