What's happening?

The company that hosted this web page is going out of business.

I have moved this web site to a new server. The old one is Powered Off and Canceled.

See Technical Details for more general updates on the web server. I sent a message to the mailing list.

For years I have put news that comes to me on this page. It had gotten very long.

In the process of moving the web pages to the new VPServer, I found many broken links, some external, but also many files that never even made it to the old VPSever. I am finding them on backups of the computer that used to serve them via DSL.

I am organizing the historical information under the "Old News" link on in the left column of this page. This is a work in progress.

Why did you make this web site (2006)?

I was shocked to find that the original nerflings.com was was unreliable because the hosting company, called “Millennium-Hosting.net ”, has inconsistant DNS records. Half the time they spell their own name wrong (millenium with one N) and whether you get the webpage depends upon all the nameservers in all the gin joints in all the towns in all the world. I spent a couple of weeks trying to help get it straightened out, but it became clear that the technical contact at Millennium Hosing has no clue what he is doing, and he doesn't think our problems amount to a hill of beans in this crazy world.

I've got a job to do, too. So I finally created this site in the dead of night as a backup. I did not co-ordinate with the focalizer of the original site, and there was some confusion at first, but now both sites are up and operating in tandem to bring you the latest spurious rumor. The owner of the *.com site seems to have changed hosting companies. So maybe everything works now, and this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship.
*—(2026) The nerflings.com site no longer exists. Click at risk.

This site was created by editing an old version of nerflings.com, but neither is a mirror of the other. Both sites can be updated independently, by different people, are run by totally different software, on different computers and networks, with no organization or commercial enterprise in common.

As time goes by, the differences between (nerflings.org) and nerflings.com continue to accumulate, so it is worth checking both sites, human reason, and divine revelation, before believing anything.

What I tell you three times is true.

Which is correct, "council" or "counsel"?

I thought the later was a straightforward spelling mistake, but before correcting it, I checked a dictionary and learned something. The word "council" is a noun, and refers to some assembled persons. The word "counsel" can be a noun, but it refers to words of advice (or to a lawyer). It can also be a verb, which refers to the act of giving or taking counsel or advice.
